Orangeburg, SC — The South Carolina State women's softball team will open its 2023 campaign, this Saturday, Feb 18 when they travel to Spartanburg, SC to participate in the Spartan Classic hosted by USC-Upstate.
The first game will start in a 11 a.m. first pitch versus George Mason, followed by a 1 p.m. showdown with Holy Cross on Saturday. The Lady Bulldogs wrap up play with a battle against league foe Maryland-Eastern Shore at 2 p.m. on Sunday.
"I am excited to get back on the field and see the ladies in action," said fourth-year head coach Tatjana Matthews. "We have nine new players, and our goal was to become one and I believe we achieved that."
Matthews noted, "This team is unlike any team I have coached at South Carolina State, they are hungry to do better than they ever have in the past and put in the work to match it."
The Lady Bulldogs wrapped up the 2022 campaign with a 3-37 overall record and 2-19 MEAC finish.
South Carolina State have seven away games slated, before returning home Tuesday, March 7th in their home-opener versus Saint Peter's University in a double-header series, beginning at 12 noon at Bulldog Softball Field.
