NORFOLK, Va – No. 3 seed South Carolina State Bulldogs kept its championship hopes alive with a 3-1 victory over No. 2 seed Delaware State Hornets Saturday afternoon at TowneBank Field in an elimination game at the 2026 MEAC Softball Championship.
After two scoreless innings, South Carolina State broke through in the top of the third inning.
Ellanie Yarrell drove in the game's first run with a sacrifice fly before
Madison Boyd added a two-run triple to give the Bulldogs a 3-0 lead.
Delaware State answered in the fourth inning when Brylin McCray drew a bases-loaded walk to bring home Alanna Yancey and trim the deficit to 3-1. However, the Hornets were unable to create another scoring opportunity against South Carolina State pitcher Dymond Round over the final three innings.
South Carolina State finished with seven hits in the contest, led by
Jamaria Charley's 2-for-4 performance. Boyd delivered the key hit of the game with her two-run triple, while
Dallas Hill reached base three times and scored a run.
Delaware State managed three hits in the loss. Karly Cain, Nevaeh Terrell and Chandler Martin each recorded a hit for the Hornets, while McCray collected the team's lone RBI.
Round earned the complete-game victory for South Carolina State, improving to 7-8 on the season after allowing just one run and three hits across seven innings. Kaylanie Rodriguez was charged with the loss for Delaware State.
With the win, South Carolina State Bulldogs advanced to face top-seeded Howard Bison in a rematch of last year's MEAC Softball Championship series.
