NORFOLK, Va. – The No. 3 seed South Carolina State Lady Bulldogs came up short in their quest for their first MEAC Softball Championship in an 11-2 defeat to top-ranked Howard Saturday (May.9) inside TowneBank Field.
SCSU ended the season with an historic 23 wins for first-year head coach Nakeya Hall. During the 2026 campaign SC State reached several milestones in defeating Charleston Southern for the first time in 22-years also capturing a win over USC-Upstate for the first time ever in school history.
Seven players were named to the All-MEAC Post season team with freshman
Dallas Hill being named MEAC Rookie of the Year.
South Carolina State finished with four hits in the contest, highlighted by a home run and two RBI. Despite the Bulldogs' postseason run through the elimination bracket, Howard's offense proved too much to overcome.
Howard showed patience at the plate, drawing eight walks, and swiping two bases while limiting South Carolina State to just two strikeouts offensively. Defensively, the Bison played error-free softball in the title game.
The Lady Bulldogs will return an even stronger nucleus next season with only seniors not returning.
