Strategic Athletic Communications Procedures
Media Credentials
Working media credentials for South Carolina State University home athletic events are issued through the South Carolina State Athletics Office of Strategic Communications & Marketing.
Requests for home football game credentials must be submitted no later than the Wednesday prior to game day and must be made on official media organization letterhead. Because of limited seating, credential approval and press box seating cannot be guaranteed without adequate advance notice.
Priority consideration will be given to:
  • Sports writers from daily and weekly newspapers.
  • Television sports directors and photographers.
  • Radio broadcasters.
  • Accredited media organizations covering the visiting institution.
  • Official conference and NCAA representatives.
Only accredited photographers assigned by recognized media outlets will be permitted to work designated field or court photography areas.
Approved credentials will be mailed when requests are received in sufficient time. Credentials not mailed may be picked up at the following locations:
Football
  • Hampton Inn (Highway 601)
  • Game-day media will receive pickup instructions before each home contest.
Basketball
  • Smith-Hammond-Middleton Memorial Center Media Will Call.

Online Media Resources
Current information on South Carolina State Bulldogs and Lady Bulldogs athletics is available 24 hours a day through the official athletics website.
Media members may access:

  • Team rosters
  • Statistics
  • Schedules
  • Results
  • Historical information
  • Multimedia content

Game-Day Media Services
Accredited media representatives and professional scouts covering South Carolina State home football and basketball games will receive game-day materials that include:
  • Official game program
  • Flip cards and lineups
  • Statistics
  • MEAC standings
  • Game notes
  • Background information
  • NCAA box scores
  • Play-by-play reports
For football, these materials are distributed from the Press Box at Oliver C. Dawson Stadium.
For basketball, materials are distributed from Press Row inside Smith-Hammond-Middleton Memorial Center.
Access to the press box and press row is restricted to properly credentialed media members, game operations personnel and approved staff.
Football and basketball statistics are distributed to broadcasters during media timeouts. NCAA halftime statistics are available during halftime, while complete NCAA Final Box Scores and Play-by-Play reports are distributed immediately following the game.
Refreshments will be available to credentialed media in the press box and other designated media hospitality areas during football and basketball games.

Interview Policies
All interview requests for South Carolina State coaches, student-athletes and athletics staff must be coordinated through the Strategic Athletic Communications & Marketing.
Failure to follow established media relations procedures may result in the suspension or revocation of media credentials and future access to South Carolina State Athletics events.
Student-Athlete Availability
Student-athletes are not available for interviews on game day prior to competition.
Media members wishing to attend practice or conduct interviews before or after practice must coordinate arrangements through the Athletics Media Relations Office in advance.
Student-athletes will not be asked to miss:
  • Class
  • Exams
  • Academic tutoring
  • Study hall
  • Other academic obligations
For privacy and safety reasons, student-athletes' personal telephone numbers, cell phone numbers and personal contact information will never be released.

Postgame Interviews
South Carolina State coaches and student-athletes will be available following an appropriate cooling-off period after each contest.
Football
South Carolina State postgame interviews will take place:
  • On the field (when applicable), or
  • In the Football Interview Room adjacent to the home locker room.
Visiting team interviews will be coordinated by the visiting institution's Sports Information Director near the visiting locker room.
Basketball
South Carolina State postgame interviews will be conducted:
  • On the court, or
  • Outside the locker room.
Visiting team interviews will be coordinated by the visiting Sports Information Director outside the visiting locker room.
Other Sports
For all other South Carolina State athletic events, postgame interviews should be arranged through the Athletics Office of Strategic Communication or the sport's designated communications contact.
Media representatives requesting interviews with members of the visiting team should coordinate those requests directly with the visiting institution's Sports Information Director.

Athletic Strategic Communications Office
The South Carolina State Athletics Office Strategic Communications serves as the primary contact for all credential requests, interview coordination, statistical services, media accommodations and game-day communications for Bulldogs and Lady Bulldogs athletics.
