When trademark infringement occurs legal remedies available to the owner of the trademark includes obtaining an injunction against the infringing party; destruction or forfeiture of infringing articles; monetary relief, including profits of the infringer, any damages sustained by the plaintiff, the costs of the legal action; and the cost of the trademark owner’s attorneys' fees.  Under certain circumstances, trademark infringement is also a crime punishable by up to 10 years imprisonment.

South Carolina State University is committed to protecting its Trademark rights.  For a business–which includes individuals–to make a commercial use of SC STATE’s name or any of its other marks, that business must have written permission to do so. Permission must be acquired by a formal contract with the CLC and South Carolina State University. Any vendor, event promoter, broadcaster or other media partner or such other similarly situated third party desiring to obtain authorization to use the SC STATE logos/brand should contact CLC ( www.clc.com ) and South Carolina State University’s Licensing Department Trademark via phone (803) 536-7485 or email cdasee@scsu.edu
