ORANGEBURG, SC — The South Carolina State women's softball team will closeout regular season play this weekend when they host North Carolina Central at the Bulldog Softball Field.
The four-game Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) series gets underway on Saturday (May 1
st), with a 1 p.m. doubleheader, following by the series concluding on Sunday (May 2
nd) with a noon doubleheader.
South Carolina State enters the weekend with a 4-22 overall record and 3-10 bill in the MEAC. Senior
Alston "AJ" Jenkins leads the team in batting, averaging .308, followed by
DeAsia Lowther at a .276 average. Lowther leads the team in runs with nine while
Kyla Reeves leads the team in hits with 19. Lowther and Jenkins both tied with 16 hits.
Lowther leads the pitching staff with a 3-11 record and 7.16 ERA in 14 contests and recorded five complete games out of 13 starts.
North Carolina Central, who is also in their regular season finale, enters the weekend series with a 7-29 overall record and 5-7 in the MEAC. Joirea Dumas and Madison Mifsud are batting above 300 at .349 and .311, respectively. Dumas leads the team with 38 hits and Imara Harrell is second with 25. Kiara Hurley has a 4.00 ERA in 28 starts to lead the pitching core for the Eagles.
