Box Score 2 ORANGEBURG, S.C. – The South Carolina State Lady Bulldogs captured their first league wins of the season in a doubleheader sweep of Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) rival N.C. A&T Saturday (Mar. 25) at the Lady Bulldogs Field.
The Bulldogs (2-24) won the first game 6-3 and posted a game-high six RBI's. SC State jumped out early to an 3-1 lead in the first inning. N.C. A&T rallied back to cut the lead to 3-3 in the top of the fourth inning. A solo homerun by senior
Unique Whitehurst put the game out of reach and sealed the victory for the Lady Bulldogs.
SC State got solid performances from
Jada Richardson with two hits and a RBI;
Day-sha Stewart with two hits and two runs scored;
Kaneisha Pettiford with one hit and three RBI's and Whitehurst with a homerun, two runs scored in the win. Freshman
Ragin Prunty was the winning pitcher.
In game two, N.C. A&T jumped out scoring three runs in the top of the third inning. SC State rallied back with four runs scored in the bottom of the fourth to tie the game 4-4. A single up the middle by
Deanna Sullivan gave the Lady Bulldogs the scoring run by senior
Tamaya McQueary in the bottom of the fifth. Freshman
Jada Lake closed out the day with a solid pitching performance for South Carolina State.
"In both games the ladies kept their composure and played as a team, from start to finish. All three phases of the game (defense, offense, and pitching) were exceptional," said SC State head coach
Cheretta Stevenson. "
Ragin Prunty, did a tremendous job on the mound and in the second game
Jada Lake came in to close it out for the victory."
