Maryland Eastern Shore Takes DH from Lady Bulldogs

ORANGEBURG, S.C. – The Maryland Eastern Shore softball team defeated South Carolina State 11-0 (5 innings) and 14-13 in a non-conference doubleheader on Wednesday afternoon at Lady Bulldogs Softball Field.

SC State (0-24) managed eight hits in the first game, but could not get any runs across the plate. D'errica Toppin picked up the win after pitching three innings and giving up seven hits and no runs. Jada Lake pitched all five innings, allowing 15 hits and 11 runs in the loss.

The Lady Bulldogs seemed poised to win the second game after taking a convincing 7-2 lead after the first inning and led 10-2 after by the end of the third.

Maryland Eastern Shore (6-10) rallied in the next three frames to get within two runs (11-9) heading into the bottom of the sixth. The outscored SC State 5-0 in the final inning to take the win.

For SC State, Jada Richardson was 4-for-4 with three runs and two RBI, while Unique Whitehurst was 3-for-4 with three runs and two RBI.

SC State opens MEAC play this weekend with a three-game series against North Carolina A&T. The teams play a doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m. on Saturday and a single game at noon on Sunday.
