Box Score ORANGEBURG, S.C. – The South Carolina State softball team fell 6-5 to Presbyterian College on Tuesday afternoon at Lady Bulldogs Softball Field.
It was the third meeting between the two teams in the last four days. The Blue Hose won both games against the Lady Bulldogs in the Charleston Southern Tournament this past weekend.
In today's contest, PC (6-9) scored a run in the top of the first to take a 1-0 lead. But SC State (0-14) answered in the bottom of the inning with three runs. The first two came on
Kaneisha Pettiford's single to right field that scored
Jada Richardson and
Unique Whitehurst. The Lady Bulldogs tacked on another run when
Day-sha Stewart scored on
Deanna Sullivan's fly out.
By the fifth inning, PC led 5-3. In the bottom of the frame, SC State pulled within one (5-4) after Stewart scored on a Blue Hose fielding error.
PC scored again in the seventh to take a two-run lead. SC State tried to rally for the win, but managed just one run before the end of the game.
Pettiford was 2-for-4 with four RBI on the day.
Ragin Prunty suffered the loss after pitching two and one third innings and allowing four runs and three hits.
SC State travels to Statesboro, Ga. this weekend to play in the Georgia Southern Eagle Classic. The Lady Bulldogs play Marshall (9 a.m.) and Delaware State (1:30 p.m.) on Friday and Eastern Kentucky (1:30 p.m.) and host Georgia Southern (5:30 p.m.) on Saturday.
