JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The South Carolina State University softball team played five games this past Friday-Sunday in the University of North Florida Osprey Invitational at the UNF Softball Field.

The Lady Bulldogs took on South Dakota State (L, 14-6) and Georgia State (L, 8-0) on Friday and played Eastern Illinois (L, 7-1) and Kansas State (L, 8-0) on Saturday. SC State fell 8-2 to host UNF on Sunday.

The Lady Bulldogs' best offensive effort of the season came in the tournament opener against South Dakota State. They recorded season-bests in at-bats (30), runs scored and runs batted in (six) and hits (seven).

SC State scored first on an RBI single by Deanna Sullivan in the bottom of the first inning to take a 1-0 lead over South Dakota State. In the bottom of the second, SC State picked up three runs to go up 4-2.

South Dakota State led 7-4 going into the bottom of the fourth inning, but SC State picked up two more runs to cut the deficit to just one run (7-6). The Jackrabbits posted six runs in the top of the sixth to put the game out of reach for the Lady Bulldogs.

The Lady Bulldogs' other runs in the tournament came against Eastern Illinois when Unique Whitehurst scored on a wild pitch in the bottom of the third and in the UNF game when Sullivan doubled to center field to score Ricary Holloman and Day-sha Stewart.

SC State makes the short trip to Charleston, S.C. this weekend to take part in the Willie Jewell's Invitational Tournament hosted by Charleston Southern University. The Lady Bulldogs play Boise State (11 a.m.) and Presbyterian College (1 p.m.) on Saturday, and on Sunday, they take on Presbyterian at 1 p.m. on host CSU at 3 p.m.
