Box Score 3 ORANGEBURG, S.C. – The Bethune-Cookman softball team swept South Carolina State in a three-game Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference series this past Saturday and Sunday at Lady Bulldogs Field. The Lady Wildcats won Saturday's doubleheader 8-6 and 16-0, and completed the sweep with a 6-1 victory on Sunday.
In game 1, B-CU (15-27, 9-3 MEAC) picked up two runs in the top of the first inning, but SC State (4-20, 1-8 MEAC) answered with four runs in the bottom of the frame.
Tamaya McQueary's single to right field scored
Unique Whitehurst and a double by
Nicole Sanders drove in three runs to give the Lady Bulldogs a 4-2 lead.
B-CU tied things up in the top of the third inning. The Lady Bulldogs regained the lead in the bottom of third on a two-RBI single by
Jada Richardson. The Wildcats put up four runs in the next inning to take the lead for good.
Richardson was a perfect 3-for-3 with two RBI, while
Jasmine Greer went 2-for-4 and scored once.
Kierra Cromer tossed her 12
th complete game of the season and allowed 12 hits and eight runs (five earned) in seven innings.
Sanders, McQueary, and
Justine Zepeda each tallied one hit for the Lady Bulldogs in the second game. Whitehurst pitched all five innings and gave up 16 runs on 16 hits and struck out one batter.
In the final game of the series, SC State got its lone run of the game in the bottom seventh inning on an RBI single by
Kaneisha Pettiford that scored
Deanna Sullivan.
The Lady Bulldogs travel to Spartanburg, S.C. on Wednesday for a non-conference doubleheader at USC-Upstate beginning at 3 p.m.
