Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 ORANGEBURG, S.C. – The South Carolina State softball team picked up its first two wins on the season on Friday after defeating Humber College 8-4 and 7-0 in a non-conference doubleheader at Lady Bulldog Field. The Lady Bulldogs improved to 2-4 overall, while Humber dropped to 0-7.
 
After three quick outs in the top of the first inning of game 1, the Lady Bulldog offense came alive and posted six runs. Back-to-back walks started the inning and the bases were loaded when Unique Whitehurst reach on an error. A single by Deanna Sullivan scored Jasmine Greer and Jada Richardson to put SC State up 2-0. Ciana Burt followed with an RBI single to get Whitehurst home safely. Two batters later, Charmaine Oden drove in two runs one a single to bring the score to 6-0.
 
Humber scored a run in the top of the second, but SC State tacked on two more runs in the bottom of the frame on a two-RBI single by Tamaya McQueary to push the lead to 8-1.
 
The Hawks managed runs in the fifth and seventh innings, but could not overcome the large first-inning deficit. Kierra Cromer earned her win of the season after pitching seven innings and giving up eight hits and four earned runs.
 
In the second game, the Lady Bulldogs had a season-high 11 hits and scored seven runs in the shut out. Whitehurst improved to 1-1 in the pitching circle after pitching three scoreless innings and only allowing two hits.
 
On the day, Burt went 6-for-8 with two runs and three RBI. Greer was 2-for-3 with two runs and a walk in the second game.
 
The Lady Bulldogs make the short trip to Charleston next weekend to play in the College of Charleston Cougar Classic on Friday and Sunday. They take on Campbell at 11 a.m. and UMASS – Lowell at 1 p.m. on Friday and Radford and Detroit at 3:30 p.m. and 5:30 p.m., respectively on Sunday.
