Box Score CLINTON, S.C. – The South Carolina State softball team fell 4-2 in the first game of a scheduled doubleheader against Presbyterian College at the PC Softball Complex on Thursday afternoon. The second game was called in the top of the fourth, with PC leading 6-1, because of lightening and rain. It did not count as an official game (five or more innings), was not resumed and will not be replayed.
PC (18-17) scored first on an RBI single in the bottom of the first inning. SC State (5-18) got on the board in the top of the third on an RBI single by
Deanna Sullivan that scored
Jasmine Harris.
The game was tied at 1-all until the bottom of the fourth when Erin Ruff hit a home run to left center field to put PC up 2-1. Not to be outdone, the Lady Bulldogs scored on a solo homer by
Tiara Lovejoy in the fifth to knot the game at 2-2. The tie was short-lived, however, as the Blue Hose got two across on a two-run home run by Shelby Petik in the bottom of the fifth.
Kensley Loudermelk (12-6) picked up the win after pitching seven innings and giving up five hits, two earned runs and striking out five batters.
Kierra Cromer fell to 2-4 on the season after allowing eight hits and four runs in six innings.
The Lady Bulldogs return to MEAC play this weekend when they travel to Durham, N.C. to take on North Carolina Central in a three-game series. Saturday's doubleheader begins and 1 p.m. and Sunday's game starts at noon.
