CHARLESTON, S.C. – The SC State softball team dropped five games this past weekend at the College of Charleston Holy City Showdown at Patriots Point. On Friday, the Lady Bulldogs (4-7) fell 5-4 to Loyola University-Chicago in 10 innings. They suffered losses against Liberty (5-2) and Dartmouth (9-0) on Saturday and Jacksonville (3-0) and College of Charleston (6-1) on Sunday.

Against Loyola-Chicago, SC State led 2-0 in the top of the fifth after a two-run double by Mikala Johnson. Loyola-Chicago answered with one run in the bottom of the frame and posted one more in the 7th to tie the game at 2-all. Both teams scored once in the 8th and 9th innings, forcing a 10th. Loyola-Chicago got three quick outs in the top of the 10th and scored on a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the inning for the win.

Liberty led 5-0 heading into the bottom of the 7th inning when the Lady Bulldogs managed two runs to avoid being shut out. They then suffered back-to-back shut outs against Dartmouth and Jacksonville.

Against tournament host College of Charleston, SC State got on the board in the top of the 3rd after an RBI single by Jasmine Greer. Charleston already had three runs at that point and added three more in the bottom of the 3rd inning. Neither team scored in the last four innings of the game.
