Box Score 4 CHARLESTON, S.C. – The SC State softball team dropped five games this past weekend at the College of Charleston Holy City Showdown at Patriots Point. On Friday, the Lady Bulldogs (4-7) fell 5-4 to Loyola University-Chicago in 10 innings. They suffered losses against Liberty (5-2) and Dartmouth (9-0) on Saturday and Jacksonville (3-0) and College of Charleston (6-1) on Sunday.
Against Loyola-Chicago, SC State led 2-0 in the top of the fifth after a two-run double by
Mikala Johnson. Loyola-Chicago answered with one run in the bottom of the frame and posted one more in the 7
th to tie the game at 2-all. Both teams scored once in the 8
th and 9
th innings, forcing a 10
th. Loyola-Chicago got three quick outs in the top of the 10
th and scored on a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the inning for the win.
Liberty led 5-0 heading into the bottom of the 7
th inning when the Lady Bulldogs managed two runs to avoid being shut out. They then suffered back-to-back shut outs against Dartmouth and Jacksonville.
Against tournament host College of Charleston, SC State got on the board in the top of the 3
rd after an RBI single by
Jasmine Greer. Charleston already had three runs at that point and added three more in the bottom of the 3
rd inning. Neither team scored in the last four innings of the game.
The Lady Bulldogs return home on Thursday to host Youngstown University in a single game at 12 p.m.
