Box Score 2 ORANGEBURG, S.C. – The South Carolina State softball team split a non-conference doubleheader with Maryland Eastern Shore on Wednesday at Lady Bulldog Field. The Lady Bulldogs won the first game 9-0 in five innings and lost the night cap 8-6.
In game 1, SC State (5-9) led 5-0 after the first two innings and jumped out to an 8-0 lead after the bottom of the third. The Lady Bulldogs got one more run in the fourth to end the scoring for the game.
Jareece Sayles earned the win after pitching a two-hit, five-inning shutout. Adrienne Guerra suffered the loss after tossing three innings and allowing eight hits, eight runs (four earned) and walking two batters.
Jasmine Harris went 3-for-3 with a double, two runs and two RBI, while
Unique Whitehurst was 2-for-2 with a double, two RBI, one run and a walk.
Jasmine Greer also had a double and she scored once and drove in two runs.
In the second game, SC State exploded for four runs in the bottom of the second, but UMES (2-11) answered with two runs in the top of the third. The Lady Bulldogs extended their lead to 6-2 in the fourth. The Lady Hawks would not be outdone, though, and scored a whopping six runs in the fifth to take the lead and seal the win.
Kaitlyn Hitch picked up the win for UMES after allowing four hits, six runs (two earned) and walking six in seven innings.
Kierra Cromer fell to 2-2 on the season after pitching two and two-third innings in relief.
Harris was 1-for-3 in the second game with four RBI and her first home run of the season. Greer tallied one hit in three at-bats, scored twice and knocked in a run.
SC State is off until next Thursday when the Lady Bulldogs host Gardner-Webb in a doubleheader. The first pitch is set for 1 p.m.
