Box Score ORANGEBURG, S.C. – The Savannah State University softball team completed a three-game sweep of SC State on Sunday with a 7-4 win in the rubber game at Lady Bulldog Field. SC State ends the season with a 10-28 overall record and a 3-12 record in MEAC play.
SSU (25-19, 9-6 MEAC) picked up four runs in the second inning to take a quick 4-0 lead. Three of those runs came on a triple by Alexis Singleton with bases loaded.
The Lady Tigers had a 5-0 lead heading into the bottom of the fourth inning, but the Lady Bulldogs cut the lead to three after a two-RBI double down the left field line by
Charmaine Oden.
In the bottom of the fifth, SC State built some momentum and was able to pick up two more runs.
Nicole Sanders and
Cianna Burt walked to start the inning and Sanders scored on a sacrifice fly by
Mikala Johnson two batters later. Burt then scored on
Kahla Caster's double to right center field with two outs. But
Kelsey Grochow struck out swinging to end the Lady Bulldogs' run.
SSU managed one more run in the seventh inning to bring the final score to 7-4. Amanda Hallman picked up her 11
th win of the season after a five-inning, seven-hit outing where she gave up four earned runs and walked four. Amanda McDowell got the save for pitching two scoreless innings with two strikeouts.
In her final outing as a Lady Bulldog,
Vianney Gomez pitched seven innings, allowing seven hits, seven runs (three earned) and striking out seven batters.
India Morgan and Ariona Hagood each went 2-for-4 for the Lady Tigers. For SC State, Caster was 2-for-4 with one run and one RBI. Sanders, Johnson and
Jasime Greer each had one hit.
