Box Score 2 ORANGEBURG, S.C. – The South Carolina State women's softball team dropped a Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) doubleheader to visiting Savannah State on Saturday afternoon at Lady Bulldog Field. SC State lost the first game 3-0, then fell 8-1 in game 2.
The first game was scoreless until the top of the fourth inning when Torrian Wright scored on a double by India Morgan to put Savannah State (24-19 overall, 8-6 MEAC) up 1-0.
The Lady Tigers picked up runs in the sixth and seventh innings for the win. Amanda Hallman (10-12) got the win after throwing a three-hit shutout while striking out four.
Vianney Gomez fell to 6-14 on the season after giving up four hits, three runs (two earned) and walking five in seven innings.
Wright got the scoring started early in the second game when she hit a home run to right center field as the lead-off batter in the second inning. Alexis Singleton drove in another run in that frame to give SSU a 2-0 lead.
SC State (10-27, 3-11 MEAC) scored its only run of the game in the bottom of the fourth inning when
Unique Whitehusrt got home safely on a single by
Kabrealyn Coleman to bring the score to 2-1.
SSU posted one run in the fifth and exploded for five runs in the seventh to put the game out of reach for SC State. Amanda McDowell (14-7) earned the win after giving up two hits, one run and striking out nine in seven innings.
Jareece Sayles (4-9) tossed a complete game, allowing 11 hits, eight runs (three earned) and striking out four.
On the day, Singleton went 3-for-9 with two RBI and one run. Morgan was 3-for-7 and drove in one run, while Wright was 1-for-1 with two runs, two RBI and a six walks.

Jasmine Greer,
Nicole Sanders and Coleman had one hit apiece.
Mikala Johnson tallied two hits for the day.
Both teams meet again tomorrow for the final game of the series. The first pitch is slated for noon.
