ORANGEBURG,SC—The South Carolina State women's softball team split a pair of non-conference contest with Presbyterian, winning the first game 2-1 before dropping a close 1-0 decision , Friday at the Lady Bulldog Softball Field.

South Carolina State improves to 5-13 overall, while Newberry is 11-9 on the season.

In game one, the Blue Hose jumped out to a quick 1-0 lead with a RBI single to left field by junior outfielder Shelby Petik to bring Jill McLean home in the top of the first inning .The Lady Bulldogs took advantage of a single in left field by freshman Jasmine Harris along with a pair of costly errors by PC to give SC State a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the sixth inning.

The Lady Bulldogs held on to secure a 2-1 victory over the Blue Hose.

Game 2 was a defensive battle with both teams remaining scoreless deep into the top of the 7^th inning. Junior Courtney Lawton scored off a RBI single by Jill McLean to give Presbyterian a 1-0 victory over South Carolina State.

South Carolina State will return to action Thursday (March.20) in a Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference opener against Maryland-Eastern Shore (UMES). First pitch is 1 p.m., followed by a 3 p.m. contest.
