Daytona Beach, Fla. (Apr. 6-7)—The SC State women's softball team dropped all three-games of a Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) series last weekend to Bethune-Cookman University (BCU).  The series, which was played last Saturday-Sunday, April 6-7, was contested at Sunnyland Park in Daytona Beach.

In Game One of the series SC State (13-16, 2-4 MEAC) fell behind early, finding themselves down 3-0 by the end of the third inning.  Both team's defenses were solid over the next two innings, than the Lady Bulldogs bats came to life.  SC State put up three runs in the top of the sixth to tie the game at 3-3.  The scored remained knotted up heading into the final inning of the contest.  After holding SC State in the top of the seventh, Bethune-Cookman (11-28, 5-0 MEAC) lead-off singled in the bottom of the inning which was followed up by a bunt to give the Lady Wildcats two base runners with no outs.  A fielding error by the Lady Bulldogs first baseman allowed the go ahead run to cross the plate, giving Bethune-Cookman the 4-3 victory.

Bethune-Cookman appeared to have control of Game Two as they jumped out to a 9-4 lead by the end of the second inning.  After going scoreless over the next two innings, the Lady Bulldogs put up two runs in the fifth and two runs in the sixth to pull within one, 9-8, heading into the final inning.  After the first two SC State batters went down in the final inning, its third batter reached base on a fielding error by the Lady Wildcats second baseman; however, the Lady Bulldogs could not capitalize, hence falling in Game Two by the one run margin.

The final game of the series belonged to Bethune-Cookman.  The Lady Wildcats scored eight runs, off 12 hits and one error to pick up the 8-0 victory in five innings.  Bethune-Cookman's pitcher, Shanel Tolbert allowed just one base runner over the five innings and finished the game with a no hitter.

Senior Taylor-Anne Harris had an outstanding series as she led SC State offensively.  Over the weekend, Harris recorded three runs off six hits with one walk and reached base on 8-of-10 at bats during the series.  Harris had her best outing in Game One when she crossed the plate three times along with three hits in the contest.  Junior Vianney Gomez was the loser in Games One and Game Three while junior Leigha Hite was the loser of Game Two.

Junior Pitcher Shanel Tolbert picked up all three wins for BCU.  Over the three-game series the Lady Wildcats put up a combined 21 runs off 28 hits, including 12 in the Game Three.

SC State will look to regroup when they host neighboring Claflin University this Wednesday, April 10, 2013.  First pitch is set for 1 p.m. at the Lady Bulldog Softball Field on the campus of SC State.
