SC State Softball Host Florida A&M in Final Home Series of 2013

SC State Close out its home season against FAMU
Orangeburg, S.C.—The SC State softball team will host Florida A&M (FAMU) in its final home series of 2013.  The three-game Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) series will get underway on Saturday, Apr. 27 with a 1 p.m. doubleheader.  The series will conclude on Sunday with a single game beginning at noon.  Saturday's date will also serve as Senior Day for the Lady Bulldogs, who will honor eight seniors in a pre-game ceremony beginning at approximately 12:45 p.m. at the Lad Bulldog Field on the campus of SC State.

SC State enters the weekend with a 16-22 overall record and 4-5 bill in the MEAC.  Sophomore Mikala Johnson leads the team in batting, averaging .327.  SC State has two players averaging 300 or better as Taylor-Anne Harris is batting .309 in her senior campaign.  Harris also leads the team in runs with 23 and is tied with Johnson in hits with 34.  Junior Vianney Gomez leads the pitching staff with a 2.70 ERA in 24 contests.  She has recorded 18 complete games out of 20 starts with a win-loss record of 13-11. 

FAMU enters the weekend series with a 15-29 overall record and 6-3 in the MEAC.  The Lady Rattlers will travel to Daytona Beach, Fla. to close out its 2013 regular season versus Bethune-Cookman next weekend.  Ashanti Shepherd leads FAMU offensively with 20 runs off 39 hits for a batting average of .382.  Naesha Lewis and Brielle Gordon are also batting above 300 at .308 and .301, respectively.  Jennifer Lindsey has a 3.11 ERA in 28 games to lead the pitching core for the Lady Rattlers.

SC State will close out its regular season next weekend (May 4-5) when they travel to Savannah, Ga. to take on the Lady Tigers of Savannah State in a MEAC three-game series.
