Durham, N.C.—The SC State women's softball team split a Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) doubleheader with North Carolina Central University (NCCU), winning Game One, 4-2 and dropping Game Two, 4-0.  The teams will meet in the rubber game of the contest series tomorrow, Sunday, Apr. 13 at 12 noon.

NCCU (3-32, 1-6 MEAC) jumped out to a 2-0 lead by the bottom of the first inning.  After going scoreless over the first three innings, SC State (15-18, 4-4 MEAC) put up two runs in the top of the fourth to knot the game at 2-2.  The Lady Bulldogs put up one run in the sixth and one in the seventh while holding the Lady Eagles scoreless en route to the 4-2 Game One victory. The Lady Bulldogs received runs from four different players in the contest.    Nicole Sanders, LaTavia Riley, Tiffany Harris and Shannon Baity all crossed the plate in Game One.

Despite recording six hits and placing 10 runners on base in Game Two, SC State could not capitalize on its offense.  NCCU once again got on the scoreboard first, putting up one run in the bottom of the second.  The Lady Eagles scored two runs in the fifth and one in sixth to take the 4-0 advantage.  The Lady Bulldogs had two of its 10 runners on base in the top of the seventh but an incorrect batter for the third out ended the Lady Bulldogs threat and the game.

Junior pitcher Vianney Gomez went 1-1 on the day while Londo Booker was the loser in Game One and Biank Molina picked up the Game Two win.

After tomorrow's contest, SC State will host the College of Charleston on Tuesday, Apr. 16.  First pitch for Tuesday's non-conference doubleheader is set for 1 p.m. at the Lady Bulldogs softball field on the campus of SC State.
