Orangeburg, S.C. (3-19-13)—The SC State women's softball team split a non-conference double with the University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES), winning game one 8-1 and dropping game two 10-9 in extra innings.  With the split the Lady Bulldogs move to 11-12 overall while the Lady Hawks go to 8-15 on the season.

SC State controlled Game One from the first pitch. The Lady Bulldogs put up three runs off three hits in the bottom of the first inning to jump out to the 3-0 lead.  The Lady Bulldogs put up an additional run in the second and allowed one UMES run in the top of the fourth for the 4-1 advantage.  SC State put up three runs off two hits in the bottom of the fourth and one run in the fifth while holding the Lady Hawks scoreless over the next three innings en route to the 8-1 Game One victory.

Game Two saw both teams offense come to life.  After allowing a run by UMES in the top of the second, SC State put up five runs off four hits and one error in its half of the inning to take a 5-1 lead.  The Lady Hawks came back strong putting up seven runs off two hits and one Lady Bulldog error to take the 8-5 lead and what appeared to be control of Game Two.  After neither team scored over the next two innings, SC State put up one run in the sixth and two in the seventh to send the game into extra innings tied at 8-8.  With two runners in scoring position, the Lady Hawks capitalized on a dropped fly ball by the Lady Bulldogs shortstop to get two runs across the plate and take the 10-8 advantage heading into the bottom of the eighth.  A RBI single down the leftfield line by freshman Cianna Burt brought in senior Taylor-Anne Harris in the bottom of the eighth to pull SC State to within one.  The Lady Bulldogs could not get anyone else across the plate, falling 10-9 in extra innings.

Senior Taylor-Anne Harris led SC State recording three runs, with two hits and two RBI's on the day. Freshman Jasmine Greer recorded one run with three hits and four RBI's.  Sophomore Vianney Gomez picked up her eighth win on the season in Game One while freshman Jazmin Robinson was the loser in Game Two.

Cherokee Williams had three runs and Jasmine James had one run with four hits and one RBI to lead UMES. Carmen Gurrola was the losing pitcher in Game One while Belen Benitez picked up the win in Game Two.

SC State will have nine days off from competition before hosting North Carolina A&T next weekend Friday-Saturday, March 29-30, when they open their 2013 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Southern Division Play.  Due to the Easter Holiday, the three-game series are being played on Friday-Saturday opposed to the normal Saturday-Sunday divisional play.
