SC State Shutout by College of Charleston in a Softball Doubleheader

Orangeburg, S.C.—SC State could not get any offense going as they fell to College of Charleston, 0-9 and 0-6, in a non-conference doubleheader.  With the loss, the Lady Bulldogs fell to 11-23 overall while the Cougars improved to 27-13 on the season.

Game One was a defensive battle through the first four innings as the teams combined for just two base runners heading into the top of the fifth.  College of Charleston bats then came to life as the scored nine runs off five hits with three SC State errors in its half of the fifth.  The Cougars held the Lady Bulldogs scoreless in the bottom of the fifth en route to the Game One 9-0 victory.

College of Charleston offense remained solid in Game Two as they put up six runs off 12 hits and three Lady Bulldogs errors.  The Cougars defense was equally as solid as pitcher Hope Klicker struck out 16 of 21 batters.  SC State's did not have any base runners in the game, das they fell in Game Two 0-6.

SC State will look to rebound when they host North Carolina Central this weekend, Saturday-Sunday, April 14-15, in a Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference three-game series.  First pitch for Saturday's double-header is set for 1 p.m. while Sunday's single game is set for a 12 noon start.

Game Notes: Sophomore Vianney Gomez was the loser of Game One while Raven Johnson was the loser of Game Two for the Lady Bulldogs…Stephanie Saylors recorded 10 strikeouts while allowing just two hits for College of Charleston in Game One...
