SC State Women’s Softball Team Drops Two to the College of Charleston

Charleston, SC (2-28-12) – The SC State women's softball team dropped a non-conference doubleheader to College of Charleston, losing 5-3 in Game One and 6-1 in Game Two.  The doubleheader was contested at Patriot Point Stadium.

In Game One College of Charleston (9-4) jumped out to a 5-0 lead by the end of the fourth inning.  SC State (8-9) bats came to life in the top as Taylor-Anne Harris scored the Lady Bulldogs first run off a double down the leftfield line by Mikayla Johnson.  The Lady Bulldogs scored two additional runs in the top of the seventh as Marquita Wilson and Kelsey Grochow each crossed the plate but could not push anymore across thus dropping Game One, 5-3.

Game Two belonged to College of Charleston as they scored in four-of-six of their innings.  The Cougars scored one run in the second, one in the third, three in the fourth and one in the fifth inning.  SC State lone run came in the top of the fifth as Tiffany Harris scored off a double by Marquita Wilson.  Neither team scored in the last inning-and-a-half as the College of Charleston won Game Two, 6-1.

Hope Klicker was the winning pitcher in Game One and Stephanie Saylors was the winner in Game Two for College of Charleston. Vianney Gomez was the losing pitcher in both games for SC State.

SC State will travel to Conyers, Ga. this Friday-Sunday, March 2-4, for the 2012 Tiny L. Laster HBCU Fast Pitch Showdown. The three-day tournament will feature various teams from the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) and Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC). The Lady Bulldogs will return home next Thursday, March 8 when they host Norfolk State in a non-conference doubleheader. First pitch is set for 1 pm at the Lady Bulldog Softball Field on the campus of SC State.
