Orangeburg, S.C.—The SC State women's softball team split a non-conference doubleheader with Benedict College, dropping Game One 6-3 and winning Game Two 13-0.  Prior to the doubleheader the department of athletics held a celebration highlighting the renovations of the Lady Bulldog Softball Field.  Senior pitcher Raven Johnson pitched her first-ever perfect game as a Lady Bulldog.

In Game One, SC State jumped out a 2-0 lead by the bottom of the third inning.  Benedict bats came to life as they scored one run in the fourth and one in the fifth to tie the game at 2-2, heading into the middle of the fifth inning.  After holding the Lady Bulldogs scoreless in the bottom of the fifth, the Lady Tigers scored four runs in the top of the sixth to take the 6-2 lead.  SC State managed to put up one run in the bottom of the sixth but neither team scored in the seventh inning giving Benedict the 6-3 Game One victory.

Game Two belonged solely to SC State as they scored runs in three-of-five innings.  The Lady Bulldogs put up four runs in the first, one run in the fourth and eight runs in the fifth en route to the 13-0 Game Two victory.  Johnson, who was the winner of Game Two, did not allow any base runners with four strikeouts in the contest to record the perfect game.

For SC State Vianney Gomez was the loser of Game One.  LaKeeya Ramsey was the winner of Game One for Benedict and Melissa Weeks was the loser of Game Two.

SC State will be back in action this weekend when they host Coppin State, Saturday-Sunday, Feb. 25-26.  Saturday's contest, which was originally scheduled for a 1 p.m. start, is set for an 11 a.m. first pitch while Sunday's contest is set for a 10 a.m. start.
