Boiling Springs, N.C. (Apr. 27, 2011)—The SC State women's softball team fell to Gardner-Webb, 3-5 and 2-5, in a softball doubleheader. The non-conference matchup was contested at Varsity Field in Boiling Springs, N.C.
In Game One, Gardner Webb (15-24) scored one run in the first and two in the second to take an early 3-0 lead over SC State (8-38). The Lady Bulldogs put up one three runs of their own in the top of the fourth to tie the game at 3-3. The Runnin' Bulldogs scored two runs off two hits in the bottom of the fifth and held the Lady Bulldogs scoreless over the final three innings en route to its 5-3 Game One Victory.
Game Two of the doubleheader started out much in the manner of Game One with Gardner Webb scoring first. The Runnin' Bulldogs put up one run in the first and two in third to take the 3-0 advantage. SC State scored one run in the fifth and one in the sixth to close the gap to 3-2 heading into the middle of the sixth. Gardner-Webb put up two additional runs in the bottom of the sixth to increase its margin to three runs at 5-2. The Lady Bulldogs threatened in the top of the seventh but could not get any runs across, hence falling in Game Two, 5-2.

Denitia Carter had three and sophomores
Shannon Baity and
Taylor-Anne Harris each knocked out two. Baity also scored two runs on the day for the Lady Bulldogs. Junior
Raven Johnson and freshman
Vianney Gomez were credited with the losses in Game One and Two, respectively.
SC State will close out its home regular season this weekend, Saturday-Sunday, Apr. 30-May 1, when they host North Carolina Central in a non-conference three-game series. Saturday's doubleheader is set for a 1 p.m. first pitch while Sunday's single game will begin at 12 noon. The Lady Bulldogs will honor its senior members before the start of Saturday's double-header.
