SC State Falls to College of Charleston in a Softball Doubleheader

Charleston, SC—The SC State women's softball team dropped a non-conference doubleheader Tuesday (March 29) to the College of Charleston, (0-8; 0-15). The matchup, which was contested at Patriots Point, was the second time the teams faced one another this season. In their earlier matchup (3-2-11), the College of Charleston came away with the 4-1 and 12-0 doubleheader sweep.

College of Charleston (21-12) came out aggressively in Game One, putting up four runs in the first inning. SC State (4-29) defense managed to hold the Cougars scoreless over the next two innings. The Cougars bats came back to life as they put up three runs in the fourth and one in the fifth en route to the 8-0 Game One victory.

College of Charleston controlled Game Two from the onset. The Cougars put up runs in four innings while holding the Lady Bulldogs scoreless of the shortened five inning contest. College of Charleston scored one in the first, one in the second, three in the third and 10 runs in the fourth on its way to the 15-0 Game Two win.

Alexa Datka and Stephanie Saylors picked up the win for the Cougars, while Raven Johnson and Vianney Gomez were the losers for the Lady Bulldogs in Game One and Two respectively.

SC State will open its 2011 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference play this weekend when they travel to Greensboro, N.C. to take on the Lady Aggies of North Carolina A&T in a three-game series. The series get underway with a double-header on Saturday beginning at 1 p.m. The three-game set will conclude on Sunday with a single game. First pitch for Sunday's contest is set for 12 noon.

The Lady Bulldogs will return home next weekend when they host the Lady Wildcats of Bethune-Cookman.
