Orangeburg, S.C.—The SC State women's softball team defeated neighboring Claflin, 4-0, 3-1, in a softball doubleheader. The non-conference matchup was contested at Hillcrest Field in Orangeburg.
SC State (2-27) dominated game one scoring four runs off four hits with just one error. The Lady Bulldogs defense was solid throughout Game One as they held Claflin (19-7) to just two hits in the contest.
Shannon Baity led the team offensively in Game One with two runs off one hit and two RBI's. The Lady Bulldogs, who scored one run in the first, one in the fourth and two in the sixth innings, received additional runs from
Taylor-Anne Harris and
Kindrea McNeil en route to the 4-0 Game One victory.
Game Two of the doubleheader began a little more competitive. The teams exchanged runs through the first three innings with SC State scoring the game's first run in the bottom of the first inning. Claflin scored in the top of the second and SC State took a 2-1 lead at the bottom of the third. SC State's defense came to life as they held Claflin scoreless over the remaining four innings. The Lady Bulldogs would score one additional run in the bottom of the fifth to take the 3-1 Game Two victory. Harris had an outstanding offensive day as she scored all three runs for the Lady Bulldogs in Game Two. On the day, she finished with four runs, two hits and one RBI.
SC State will have one day of rest before returning to action on Wednesday, March 23 when they host the University of Maryland Eastern Shore. First pitch is set for 1 p.m. at Hillcrest Field in Orangeburg.
