SC State Drops Non-Conference Softball Doubleheader to Morgan State

Late Game Errors Cost Lady Bulldogs Game Two of Doubleheader

Orangeburg, S.C.—The SC State softball team dropped a non-conference doubleheader to MEAC Foe Morgan State, 9-1, 5-3 (in extra innings). The contest, which was played at Hillcrest Field in Orangeburg, was not counted towards the MEAC Standings because the teams compete in two separate divisions.

In Game One, Morgan State jumped out to an early 3-1 lead by the middle of the third inning. The Lady Bears (4-2) put up one run in the top of the fifth and had a breakaway inning in the top of the sixth, putting up five additional runs to lead, 9-1, heading into the bottom of the inning. The Lady Bulldogs (0-8) could not score in the fifth hence giving Morgan State the Game One.

Morgan State struck first in Game Two scoring onerun in the top of the third. SC State rebounding nicely, putting up three runs in the bottom of the four inning to take the 3-1 lead. Morgan State scored two runs off two SC State errors in the top of the seventh inning to tie the game at 3-3. The Lady Bulldogs could not score in the bottom of the seventh which forced the game into extra innings. Once again a couple of errors committed by SC State allowed Morgan to come across the plate as the Lady Bears put up two runs in the top of the eighth inning. SC State's did not score in its half of the inning which gave Morgan State the 5-3 Game Two victory.

Senior Tonya Giles led the Lady Bulldogs offensively with two runs and three hits on the day.
