SC State Drops Non-Conference Doubleheader to Western Carolina

Tomorrow’s Doubleheader with Savannah State Postponed for a Date to be Determined

Raven Johnson had 2 hits in Game Two
Orangeburg, SC—The SC State women's softball team fell to Western Carolina, 10-1, 5-0, in a non-conference doubleheader. The doubleheader, the Lady Bulldogs 2011 home-opener, was contested at Hillcrest Field, the temporary home field for the Lady Bulldogs.

Western Carolina (6-0) controlled the doubleheader from the onset. In Game One, the Catamounts put up nine runs by the middle of the third inning and one additional run in the top of the fourth before the Lady Bulldogs could get on the board. SC State (0-6) got its lone run from senior outfielder Tonya Giles in the bottom of the fourth inning. Neither team put a run on board in the fifth hence giving the Catamounts the 10-1 victory in five innings.

SC State battled a harder in Game Two holding Western Carolina to just five runs off 13 hits. The Lady Bulldogs did manage to get five hits of their own but could not turn them into runs. On the day junior Raven Johnson and freshman Chelsea Evans put up two hits each. Evans recorded an RBI in Game One.

SC State will return back to action this Friday, Feb. 18 when they host Morgan State University in non-conference matchup at Hillcrest Field in Orangeburg. First pitch is set for 1 p.m.
