Orangeburg, SC--The SC State fell to North Carolina A&T (4-7, 9-0) women's softball. The contest was the 2010 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) opener for both teams.
In Game One, NC A&T (11-16, 2-0 MEAC) put up one run in the first and second innings to jump ahead 2-0. SC State (3-23, 0-2 MEAC) put up one run in its half of the second to pull within one, 2-1. The Lady Aggies scored one third and six in the fifth to go ahead 7-1. The Lady Bulldogs fought hard scoring three runs in the bottom of the fifth but could not manage any more, falling 4-7 in Game One.
The Lady Aggies started Game Two strong, putting up one run in the first and four runs in the second inning. The Lady Bulldogs defense then went to work, holding NC A&T scoreless through the next three innings. The Lady Aggies put two additional runs in the top of the sixth before the Lady Bulldogs bats came alive. SC State threatened in the bottom of six getting two batters on base but could not capitalize, hence falling in Game Two 9-0.
Sasha Philpot picked up the victory and Jennifer Luper picked up the save for the NC A&T in Game One. Luper picked up the Game Two victory for the Lady Aggies. Raven Johnson and Arzine Lee picked up the loss in Game One and Two respectively.
The Lady Bulldogs will host these same Lady Aggies in the final game of the three-game conference series, tomorrow at 12 noon at the Lady Bulldog Softball Field on SC State Campus. Admission is free and open to the public.
