Daytona Beach, FL—The SC State Lady Bulldogs finished 1-2 with the Bethune-Cookman University (BC-U) Lady Wildcats in a Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) softball three-game series. The series, which was held this past weekend, was contested at the Sunnyland Park in Daytona Beach, FL.
In the first game of the double-header on Saturday, BC-U (17-18 overall, 3-1 MEAC) jumped out to 6-2 lead by the end of the second inning. SC State (4-28, 1-5 MEAC) put up three runs in the top of the third to pull within one run, 6-5. The Lady Wildcats put up one run in each of the next three-innings to pick-up the Game One victory 9-5.
BC-U got on the scoreboard first in Game Two, scoring one run in the bottom of the second inning. SC State then put both their offense and defense to work as they scored two runs in the third inning and held BCU scoreless over the next three innings to take a 2-1 advantage into the top of the sixth inning. The Lady Bulldogs put up two additional runs in the top of second and allowed only one Lady Wildcat run in the bottom of the sixth en route to the 4-2 Game Two win.
BC-U put up three runs in the third inning, four runs in the fourth, one run in the fifth and three runs in the sixth inning as they defeated the Lady Bulldogs, 11-2 in Game Three, to win the conference series 2-1. SC State scored its runs in the top of the third and the top of the fifth innings respectively.
Allie Garcia picked up the wins in all three contests for the Lady Wildcats. Sophomore Raven Johnson went 1-2 over the weekend for the Lady Bulldogs.
SC State will travel to Savannah, Georgia to take on the Lady Tigers of Savannah State this Wednesday and Thursday. The Lady Bulldogs will return home this weekend, Friday-Saturday, Apr. 17-18, when they host Norfolk State in a MEAC three-game series. The Lady Bulldogs will honor its seniors in a pre-game ceremony on Sunday.
**GAME NOTES: Freshman Shannon Baity hit her first career homerun on Sunday… The victory on Saturday was Head Coach Donisha Johnson's first conference victory of her career.
