Orangeburg, SC--The South Carolina State women's softball team dropped a double-header to Oakland University (Michigan), losing 8-2 and 12-7, in a non-conference match-up at Lady Bulldog Stadium on the campus of SC State.
In Game One Oakland (3-4) put up runs in the first three innings while holding the SC State (2-6) scoreless through the first five. The Golden Grizzles scored one run in the first, and three runs in the second and third respectively. The Lady Bulldogs held strong in the next three innings and allowed just one run in the seventh inning. SC State scored two runs in the six as they fell 8-2 in Game One.
Oakland maintained its intensity in Game Two putting two runs on the board n the first inning. Unlike Game One, SC State matched the intensity of Oakland as they put up two runs of its own in the bottom of the first inning to tie the game at two. The Golden Grizzles put up one run in the second and six runs in the third to jump ahead of the Lady Bulldogs by seven, 9-2. SC State managed to put up one run in the third and three runs in the fourth to pull within three runs, 9-6. The Golden Grizzles would put up three additional runs in the sixth and hold the Lady Bulldogs to just one run in the seventh as they picked up the Game Two victory, 12-7.
Brittany Doyle was the winner in Game One and Alison Transel picked up the win in Game Two for the Golden Grizzles. Arziné Lee and Raven Johnson were the losers in Games One and Two respectively.
South Carolina State will return to action this Friday-Sunday, Feb. 26-28, when they travel to Durham, NC to participate in the North Carolina Central Tournament. The Lady Bulldogs next home game is scheduled for next Friday, March 5 at 12 noon when they host Youngstown University.
