SC State Softball Goes 1-1 on Final Day of the Lady Bulldog Classic

Orangeburg, SC—The South Carolina State women's softball team went 1-1 on the final day of the 2009 SC State Lady Bulldog Classic.   The tournament was contested at the Lady Bulldogs Softball Field on the campus of SC State.
 
In its first game of the day SC State, (2-9), fell to the University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) in extra innings. The Lady Hawks scored three runs in the top of the fourth inning to jump ahead of the Lady Bulldogs, 3-0. The Lady Bulldogs would not be outdone as they put up one run in the bottom of the sixth and two runs in the bottom of the seventh to force extra innings. UMES scored three runs in the top of the eighth but SC State could only score one, giving the Lady Hawks the 7-4 victory.
 
SC State redeemed themselves it their second game of the day, as they defeated Hampton University, 5-1. The Lady Bulldogs put up one run in the fourth and four runs in the fifth to jump ahead of Hampton 5-0. The Lady Pirates scored its lone run in the top of the seventh.
 
Freshman Kimberlee Pereira was the loser in game one while freshman Raven Johnson pitched a complete game picking up the victory in game two.
 
Seniors Krystal Anthony and Emerald Freeman were named to the All-Tournament Team.
