ORANGEBURG, S.C.  — South Carolina State women's basketball suffered a tough 73-53 setback Wednesday (Feb.4) to Maryland Eastern Shore inside Smith-Hammond-Middleton Memorial Center.

Juste-Jean led South Carolina State with 13 points, while Harper added 10 points and Feliah Greer grabbed a team-high 11 rebounds. Iemyiah Harris scored eight points for the Lady Bulldogs, who shot 37 percent from the field but committed 32 turnovers that led to 27 Hawks points.

South Carolina State (5-16, 2-4) led 36–34 at halftime after Heaven Harper scored 10 points and Angie Juste-Jean added nine in the opening half. The Bulldogs appeared in control after Harper's layup in the closing seconds of the second quarter gave them the lead.

Ashanti Lynch scored 18 points for Maryland Eastern Shore, while Kalise Hill added 13 points and Dayshawna Carter finished with 12 for the Hawks (13-11, 6-1 MEAC), who outscored South Carolina State 39–17 after halftime. Brianna Barnes contributed nine points off the bench as Maryland Eastern Shore extended its conference winning streak.

Maryland Eastern Shore pushed its lead to as many as 26 points midway through the final period and never allowed the Bulldogs to mount a comeback.

UMES shot 33 percent overall but capitalized at the free-throw line, making 28 of 37 attempts, and received 38 points from its bench.

NEXT UP: South Carolina State return to action Saturday (Feb. 7) on the road versus Howard University in a pivotal Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference showdown inside Burr Gymnasium.
