Women's Basketball Adds Bridget Williams to Coaching Staff

ORANGEBURG, S.C. — South Carolina State head women's basketball coach Cedric W. Baker announced the addition of Bridget "BB" Williams to the Lady Bulldogs coaching staff for the 2026-27 season.

Williams joins South Carolina State after seven successful seasons as an assistant coach at Benedict College, where she helped establish the Tigers as one of the premier programs in the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC).

A native of Andrews, South Carolina, Williams starred at Andrews High School, earning All-Region, All-State and Most Valuable Player honors during her prep career. She continued her academic and athletic career at Benedict College, earning a Bachelor of Science degree in recreation and leisure studies in 2012 and a Master of Science degree in sport management in 2023.

During her tenure at Benedict, Williams played a key role in the Tigers' success, helping guide the program to SIAC championships in 2020 and 2022. She also assisted the team in earning a berth in the 2022 NCAA Division II Women's Basketball Tournament and was a member of the coaching staff that captured the 2026 Women's Black College Invitational championship.

Williams has remained committed to professional growth and leadership development throughout her coaching career. She participated in the NCAA Basketball Coaches Academy in Indianapolis in 2025 and the NCAA Next Generation Institute in Phoenix in 2026.

Known for her dedication to player development, Williams has mentored numerous award-winning student-athletes, including the 2026 SIAC Defensive Player of the Year, the 2019 and 2020 SIAC Players of the Year, and the 2019 and 2021 Women's Basketball Coaches Association Division II Honorable Mention All-Americans.

"Bridget brings a wealth of experience, leadership and a passion for developing student-athletes both on and off the court," Baker said. "Her championship pedigree and commitment to excellence make her a tremendous addition to our program."

Williams credits her faith as a guiding force throughout her personal and professional journey.

"Trusting God's timing in every season."

Outside of basketball, she enjoys ice skating and spending time with family and friends.
