SC State Women's Basketball Adds Le'Andrea Gillis to Coaching Staff

ORANGEBURG, S.C. — South Carolina State head women's basketball coach Cedric W. Baker announced the addition of Le'Andrea Gillis as an assistant coach for the Lady Bulldogs ahead of the upcoming season.

Gillis joins South Carolina State following a successful tenure at Shorter University, where she spent two seasons as a graduate assistant before being promoted to assistant coach and later serving as interim head coach.

During her time as an assistant with the program, Gillis in her second season guided the Hawks to a Southwest Division Championship and a 21-7 record, while as interim head coach she led her team to another division championship.

"We are excited to welcome Le'Andrea to our coaching staff," said Baker. "She brings a wealth of knowledge as both a player and coach, along with a proven ability to develop student-athletes on and off the court. Her energy, leadership, and commitment to excellence will be a tremendous asset to our program."

A standout player throughout her collegiate career, Gillis concluded her playing days at Georgia Southern during the 2022-23 season. As a graduate transfer, she appeared in 30 games with six starts, averaging 8.3 points and 2.1 rebounds per contest.
She connected on 54 three-pointers, shooting 37 percent from beyond the arc, which ranked among the program's single-season leaders. Gillis recorded 12 double-figure scoring performances, including a season-high 20 points against Troy and 17-point outings against Bethune-Cookman and Georgia State.

Before transferring to Georgia Southern, Gillis enjoyed a stellar four-year career at Savannah State University. A two-time All-Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) selection, she scored 1,120 career points for the Tigers and emerged as one of the conference's premier scorers. As a sophomore, she averaged 18.1 points and 5.9 rebounds per game, while averaging 15.1 points in a shortened junior campaign. During her senior season, Gillis averaged 14.3 points per game while shooting 42 percent from three-point range and 83 percent from the free-throw line.

A native of Adrian, Ga, Gillis starred at Treutlen County High School, where she was named Region 3A Player of the Year. Her prep accolades included Georgia All-State First Team honors, Atlanta Journal-Constitution All-State Second Team recognition, First Team South Georgia Athletic Coaches Association honors and All-Middle Georgia First Team honors. She surpassed the 1,000-point milestone during her sophomore season.

Off the court, Gillis has excelled academically. She earned Sun Belt Conference Academic Honor Roll recognition during her time at Georgia Southern. She graduated from Savannah State University in 2022 with a bachelor's degree in biology and earned a Master of Business Administration from Shorter University in 2024.

Gillis joins a South Carolina State program looking to build upon its recent success as the Lady Bulldogs prepare for the 2026-27 season.
