ORANGEBURG, SC—The South Carolina State women's basketball team return to action on Saturday (Feb.17) when they host Coppin State in a Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference(MEAC) doubleheader at Smith-Hammond-Middleton Memorial Center. Tipoff is 2 p.m. for the women, with the men following immediately in a 4 p.m. start.
The last time the two teams met they open conference play with Coppin State defeating South Carolina State 54-70 in Baltimore, MD. Four players finished in double figures for the Lady Bulldogs with
Bryeasha Blair leading the way with a team-high 16 points. Sophomore forward
JaQuanna Murray recorded the games only double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds, while
Brittany Drumgoole added 15 and
Jahmia Bradley 10 in the loss.
Blair remains among one of the top performers in the MEAC leading the way with 17.5 ppg/2
nd in the MEAC, while junior forward
Drumgoole at 11.1 points per outing/16
th in the MEAC. Bradley anchors the frontcourt in rebounding with 6.6/9
th in the MEAC per outing while scoring 7.5 points per game.
Coppin State (6-18 overall, 6-6 MEAC) enters the contest 8
th in league standings and is led by Genesis Lucas with 13.0 ppg, while Keena Samuels adds 12.4 per outing. Chance Graham is the leader on the boards with 8.3 and 6.5 points.
Next up South Carolina State (5-19 overall, 2-11 MEAC) plays its final home game of the season Saturday (Feb.25)when they host Florida A&M in a league doubleheader at Smith-Hammond-Middleton Memorial Center. Tipoff is 2 p.m. for the women, with the men following in a 4 p.m. start afterwards.
