SC State Cross Country Teams Open 2011 Campaign Friday

The Meet is One of Seven the Teams Will Compete in Thhis Season

ORANGEBURG, SC -- The SC State men's and women's cross country teams begin their 2011 seasons Friday (Sept. 2nd) in Columbia at the Gamecock Invitational, hosted by University of South Carolina.
Other teams competing for the men's title are Benedict, Charleston Southern, Citadel, Coastal Carolina, Fort Valley State, Francis Marion, host USC USC-Beaufort, and UNC Pembroke.
Also in the women's field are Benedict, Charleston Southern, Citadel, Coastal Carolina, Fort Valley State, Francis Marion, Georgia Southern, USC, USC-Aiken, USC-Beaufort, and UNC Pembroke.
The women's competition is set for a 6:30 p.m. start in Columbia on the Fort Jackson Army Base (Hilton Field), while the men will toe the line at 7:00pm.
SC State University Head Coach Tyree Price said he is excited about the prospects for his teams following a good summer of training, and with the added talent to the team. Six freshmen and one transfer have been added.
The teams look to start strong and improve upon their quest for a Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Championship this year.
Key runners for the Lady Bulldogs are Brittney Stewart (Sr.), Sherril McFarlane (Fr.), Sarai Waters(T-Fr.) and Tamara Smith (So.).
Key runners for the Bulldogs include Seymour Walter (So.), Aaron Worthy (So.) and Quinton Green (Sr.).
