TUSKEGEE, Ala. — South Carolina State volleyball returns to action Thursday when the Lady Bulldogs travel to Alabama to take on Tuskegee University in a nonconference matchup.
First serve is scheduled for
5 p.m. CST|6 p.m. EST in Tuskegee, Alabama.
The Lady Bulldogs enter the matchup looking to build on several encouraging performances during the opening weeks of the season. SC State owns a 1-5 record and is coming off a competitive four-set loss to the College of Charleston at the Charleston Championship Invitational.
SC State showed its ability to respond against the Cougars, capturing the third set 25-23 while hitting .359 with 18 kills and only four attack errors in the frame.
Kenna Harris led the Lady Bulldogs with 13 kills in the match, while
Amani Hawkins added 10.
Carra Pierre-Louis contributed eight kills while hitting .333.
Through six matches, Harris leads SC State with 60 kills and averages 2.61 kills per set.
Ki'ra Wright has recorded 45 kills, while Hawkins has contributed 43.
Taelyn Graham has been one of the Lady Bulldogs' most efficient attackers, hitting .268 with 30 kills.
Setter
Macey McCoy has directed the SC State offense with 140 assists, averaging 6.09 assists per set. Defensively, the Lady Bulldogs have collected 309 digs and 29 total blocks through their first six matches.
Tuskegee enters Thursday's contest after opening the season with a challenging nonconference slate. The Golden Tigers started 0-4 at the West Texas A&M Invite before responding with victories over Oakwood, Clark Atlanta and Huston-Tillotson. After a loss to Livingstone, Tuskegee returned home Tuesday and defeated Stillman 3-0.
Thursday's matchup also begins another busy stretch on the road for South Carolina State. Following the Tuskegee contest, the Lady Bulldogs are scheduled to travel to Montgomery, Alabama, for the ISTAP Invitational hosted by Alabama State. SC State is slated to face Alabama State and Nicholls on Friday before taking on Miami University (Ohio) on Saturday.
The Lady Bulldogs return to Orangeburg for their home opener Tuesday, Sept. 15, against crosstown rival Claflin University inside Dukes Gymnasium.
