Le'Andrea Gillis joined the South Carolina State women's basketball program as an assistant coach in 2026, bringing a strong combination of coaching experience, player development expertise and collegiate playing success to the Lady Bulldogs.
Gillis arrives in Orangeburg following a successful stint at Shorter University, where she spent two seasons as a graduate assistant before being promoted to assistant coach and later serving as interim head coach. During her tenure, she helped guide the Hawks to a Southwest Division Championship and a 21-7 overall record. As interim head coach, she led the program to another division title, further demonstrating her leadership and ability to build winning teams.
A native of Adrian, Georgia, Gillis was a standout collegiate student-athlete whose playing career spanned both Savannah State and Georgia Southern. She concluded her career at Georgia Southern during the 2022-23 season, appearing in 30 games with six starts while averaging 8.3 points and 2.1 rebounds per contest. She connected on 54 three-pointers and shot 37 percent from beyond the arc, ranking among the program's single-season leaders. Gillis recorded 12 double-figure scoring performances, including a season-high 20 points against Troy.
Prior to Georgia Southern, Gillis enjoyed an outstanding four-year career at Savannah State, where she earned All-SIAC honors twice and scored 1,120 career points. She established herself as one of the conference's top scorers, averaging 18.1 points and 5.9 rebounds per game as a sophomore. She followed with a 15.1-point average during her junior season and averaged 14.3 points per game as a senior while shooting 42 percent from three-point range and 83 percent from the free-throw line.
Before college, Gillis starred at Treutlen County High School, earning Region 3A Player of the Year honors and multiple all-state recognitions. She surpassed the 1,000-point milestone during her sophomore season and was recognized as one of Georgia's top prep players.
Academically, Gillis earned Sun Belt Conference Academic Honor Roll recognition at Georgia Southern. She received a bachelor's degree in biology from Savannah State University in 2022 and completed her Master of Business Administration degree at Shorter University in 2024.
Gillis joins the Lady Bulldogs as part of head coach Cedrick W. Baker's staff and will play a key role in the continued development of South Carolina State's women's basketball program.
