ORANGEBURG, SC – The South Carolina State track and field teams will close out their regular-season outdoor campaign Friday and Saturday (May 2-3) at the two-day (Apr. 2-3) East Coast Relays Invitational hosted by the University of North Florida at Hodges Stadium.
The competition for an expected large field will begin at 2 p.m. Friday with field events, with running events set to start at 6 p.m. On Saturday, the competition gets underway at 9 a.m.
In its last outing Apr. 25-26 at the UCF Knights Invite, SC State won two events, both by Junior thrower
Robert Carter, who finished first in the javelin (55.16) and shot put 14.58). Also earning podium appearances were the men's 4x100m relay team (41.31) and 4x400m relay team (3:14.97), which was third in both.
Carter was one of three SC State track participants recognized by the MEAC for outstanding performance. Also honored were
Isaiah Vertus, who was fifth in the 400 meters (46.60) and
TyQwasia Williams, who was fifth in the women's 400m hurdles (1.00.65)
Following this week's meet, Coach Don Cooper's team will next participate in the MEAC Championships May 15-17 at Norfolk, Virginia.
