Softball Splits With Hornets In MEAC Play

ORANGEBURG, SC—The South Carolina State softball team played to the wire splitting a pair of Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) contest with visiting Delaware State Saturday (April.12) inside Lady Bulldog Softball Field.

South Carolina State honored four student-athletes who will wrap up the collegiate careers at the end of the season in a pregame ceremony.

HOW IT HAPPENDED:
Game 1: Top of the 4th inning center fielder Ashlyn Schmidt singled to centerfield for an RBI, Emma Crowed advanced to second to allow Karly Cain to score to give DSU an 1-0 lead. The Hornets defense would hold on to secure the win.

Game 2: In the bottom of the 7th inning Madison Boyd flied out to centerfield for an RBI to allow a score by Jamaria Charley to tie the score 3-3. Both teams would push for extra innings, SCSU scored in the bottom of the 9th inning off a score by Marley Quamm. With the Hornets up 4-5 in the bottom of the 11th inning Madsion Body singled to left field, adding for 2 RBIs with scores from Jamaria Charley and Jayla King to secure the 6-5 victory over Delaware State.

NEXT UP: South Carolina State will close out the final of a three-game series versus Delaware State Sunday (April.13) in a 12-noon showdown inside Lady Bulldog Softball Field.
