Softball Drops MEAC Series To Howard

ORANGEBURG, SC—The South Carolina State softball team knocked off Howard 5-1 in the final of a three-game series inside Lady Bulldog Softball Field. The Bison claimed the series 2-1 posting back-to-back wins Saturday in an exciting doubleheader 4-1 in Game#1 and 9-8 in Game #2.

South Carolina State falls to 6-13 overall, 2-4 in the MEAC, while Howard improves to 11-15 overall, 5-1 in the league.

In Game # 1: Howard jumped out to an 4-0 lead. The Lady Bulldogs only score came in the 7th inning when Kylie Nelson singled to shortstop, RBI; Kaylah Lesli advanced to second; Jamaria Char advanced to third; Madison Boyd scored. 4-1 (Howard)

In Game # 2: SCSU took a commanding 8-5 lead in the bottom of the 6th, before the Bison scored 5 unanswered runs on a VASQUEZ,A. singled, RBI; RIGGINS,A. advanced to second; BALLENGER,A. advanced to third; FLETCHER,S. scored. (Howard 6-8). HART, M. singled, 2 RBI; VASQUEZ, A. advanced to second; RIGGINS,A. scored; BALLENGER,A. scored to tie the score (8-8 Howard). Howard RICKS, L. singled, RBI; HART, M. advanced to second; VASQUEZ, A. scored. Howard wins (9-8).

In Game # 3: South Carolina State jumped out to an 4-0 lead.  HU's only score came JORDAN,M. doubled to center field, RBI; RICKS,L. scored. The Lady Bulldogs closed out with a score in the 6th  when Taylor Ames- walked, RBI; Madison Boyd advanced to third; Jamaria Char scored.

NEXT UP: South Carolina State returns to action this weekend March 29th -30th on the road versus Morgan State in Baltimore, MD.  The three-game series will begin Saturday in an exciting doubleheader at 1 p.m., followed by 3:30 pm. The final game of the series will be Sunday at 12 noon.
