NASHVILLE, TN—The South Carolina State volleyball team posted an impressive 3-0 sweep over Mississippi Valley State Friday (Sept.13) but fell short in the second contest to Bethune-Cookman 1-3 opening round of the Tiger Invitational held on the campus of Tennessee State inside Kean Hall Gymnasium.
In the first contest it was all the Lady Bulldogs (1-3) snapping a losing skid to post a 3-0 shutout victory over MSVU (1-4) (26-24, 25-21, 25-19).
Hailey Harris let the way with 12 kills, followed by Xaria Pickett with 11.
Kaia Barnett was the leader in assist with a game-high 28, while
Miya Benson added 16 digs in the win.
The second game was a hard-fought battle with SC State dropping a tough battle to Bethune-Cookman 1-3. Xaria Pickett led the way with a game-high 19 kills, while
Hailey Harris added 10 and
McKinley Roach seven (7).
Kaia Barnett posted a game-high 39 assist, while
Miya Benson added 22 digs and Barnett and Pickett nine (9) respectively.
NEXT UP: South Carolina State will close out the Tiger Invitational versus host Tennessee State in a 9 am (CST)/10 am (EST) start.
