ORANGEBURG, SC—In a hard-fought battle down the stretch, South Carolina State fell short of posting their first win of the season in a 0-1 defeat to Winthrop Thursday (Sept.29^th) inside O.C. Dawson Stadium on Willie E. Jeffries Field.

Despite the loss, SC State attempted a season-best seven (7) shots at goal followed by game-high five (5) saves in the loss.

The Eagles Lauren Kelly posted the winning goal off a penalty kick at the 64:12 mark in the contest.

South Carolina State falls to 0-5 on the season, while Winthrop improves to 2-1.

NEXT UP: South Carolina State will hit the road once again versus Presbyterian College on Sunday (Sept.1) in Clinton, SC. First kick is 6 pm.

All women's soccer home contests will be played at the Oliver C. Dawson Bulldog Stadium on the campus of SC State and are free to the public.
