SC State Women Fall To Lady Aggies 74-54

Box Score ORANGEBURG, SC –  South Carolina State had its two-game Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference win streak snapped Saturday, losing 74-54 to visiting North Carolina A&T at Smith-Hammond-Middleton Memorial Center.

Bryeasha Blair tossed in 18 points and Esther Udonsi came off the bench for 14 and five rebounds to lead Coach Doug Robertson's team, which fell to 9-14 and 4-7 in the MEAC. Chantel Williams had six rebounds to lead SC State on the boards, where the Lady Bulldogs were outrebound 53-37.

SC State suffered another poor shooting night from the field, converting only 28.3 percent (15-53) of  its shots from the field, including a dismal 4-26 in the first half when Robertson's team fell behind by as many as 20 points, 35-15, with just under a minute left.

"We never got going on offense and didn't show in defensive intensity earlier as they (the Lady Aggies) took control in the first quarter," said Lady Bulldog head coach Doug Robertson. "And, doing those times when we created some scoring opportunities, we failed to convert."

Visiting NC A&T pushed its lead to 51-28 with just over two minutes left in the third and was never threatened after that as the Lady Bulldogs could come no closer than 15 points, 66-51, when Blair made 1-2 from the line with just 2:53 left. NC A&T closed the game with an 8-3 run.

The visitors had three players in double figures, led by C'Coriea with 23 points. Alexus Lessears added 12 points and a game-high 14 rebounds, while Quenswayla Story contributed 10 points, for NC A&T which maintained its position for the top spot in the MEAC with a 9-1 league mark and a 14-8 overall worksheet.

The SC State women converted on just four of 26 field goal attempts in the first half, including 1-9 from three-point range to trail the visitors 35-17 at intermission. The Lady Bulldogs also struggled from the free throw line, making just 8-14 tries and finished just 19-32 from the charity stripe.

Blair and Jasmine Williams had six points each for SC State in the opening half.

NC A&T connected on 39 percent (14-36) of its field goal attempts and made all three free throw tries in rolling to an 18-point at the half. C'Coriea Foy had 11 of her total in the first half and handed out four assists for in the first 20 minutes.

SC State returns to the court Saturday, Feb. 17, at Hampton in the first-game of a league doubleheader, beginning at 4 p.m.
