Lady Bulldogs Return To Action On The Road

CHARLESTON, SC--- The South Carolina State women's basketball team look to bounce back after a tough road loss to Radford, when they travel Saturday (Nov. 10th) to face the College of Charleston in a non-conference matchup at TD Arena. Tip-off is 2 p.m. (EST)

SERIES MEETING: South Carolina State leads the series 21-10 over the College of Charleston.  The last time the two teams met the Lady Bulldogs won 60-51 on Dec. 28th, 2014.

THE COACHES: South Carolina State head coach Audra Smith is in her first season at the helm of the Lady Bulldog Basketball program. COC head coach Candice Jackson is in her 4th season as the women's basketball coach.

SCOUTING THE COUGARS: CofC opened the season in dominating fashion knocking off North Greenville 95-62. Senior guard Darien Huff and Deja Ford posted 19 each in the victory. Redshirt freshman controlled the front court off the bench adding 11 points and grabbing seven boards. Madison Taylor also had a big nigh for the College of Charleston chipping in 16 points from the bench, while teammate Tyler Collins added nine (9) points and dished out 12 assist.

QUOTEABLE: HEAD COACH AUDRA SMITH: "We are excited to get back on the court. College of Charleston is a very young but talented team and we have to be ready to play. I look forward to see how the players bounce back after coming off a tough loss to Radford. In order for us to be able to compete we have to get back on defense and defend."

BULLDOG BITES:
• The Lady Bulldogs opened the year with a 61-31 road loss at Radford. Jakayvea Akins and Kemoni Jenkins led SC State with nine (9) points apiece with Taylor Brown adding 7 points and 8 boards.
• South Carolina State finished 12-17 (6-10 MEAC) last season. Senior guard Kemoni Jenkins is the leading returning scorer at 10.0 ppg., while senior forward Kyesha Lewis added 9.5 ppg. (41 3's).
• South Carolina State was picked 11th in the preseason MEAC Poll by the coaches and sports information directors. The Lady Bulldogs return seven (7) veterans and welcomes six (6) newcomers to the squad this upcoming season.

UP NEXT: South Carolina State hits the road and head to Conway, SC to take on Coastal Carolina in a non-conference matchup Tuesday (Nov.13th) in a 6 p.m. start.
