Box Score ORANGEBURG, SC---Senior guard/forward Taylor Houston tossed in a game-high 14 points, while teammate Ashanti Hunt added 12 and five rebounds to lead Bethune-Cookman to a ,64-34, victory over South Carolina State Saturday (Jan. 14) at Smith-Hammond-Middleton Memorial Center.
Bethune-Cookman remains unbeaten in league with a 4-0 MEAC, 8-8 overall record, while SC State falls to 3-10 overall, 0-2 in the conference.
"They made shots early on and we didn't ", said assistant coach Roderick Woods. "We dug ourselves in a hole and we can't get back our rhythm to make it a game."
BC-U defense tallied a game-high 10 blocks, with last season's MEAC Defensive Player of the Year Kailyn Williams finishing with a team-high six, along with four rebounds. The top-ranked Lady Wildcat defense managed to hold the Lady Bulldogs to its lowest point total of the season at 34.
Hunt gave BC-U its biggest lead of the first half 25, 40-15, with 0:34 seconds remaining. Bethune-Cookman led 42-15 during intermission.
Back-to-back layups by Lyndsey Edwards and Kanesha Battle gave BC-U their largest margin of the day 36, to take a 62-26 advantage with 3:40 remaining in regulation.
Despite the loss, the Lady Bulldogs defense forced Bethune-Cookman to 15 turnovers, along with a game-high seven steals.

South Carolina State returns to action on Monday (Jan.16) at home against Savannah State in the first of a doubleheader MEAC beginning at 5:30 p.m.
