ORANGEBURG, SC—The South Carolina State women's basketball team will open up Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) home play against visiting Bethune-Cookman Saturday (Jan. 14) at Smith-Hammond-Middleton Memorial Center. Tipoff is 2 p.m.
This will be the second league game for the Lady Bulldogs after suffering a tough, 70-54, road loss to Coppin State on last week.
Graduate guard
Bryeasha Blair led the Lady Bulldogs (3-9 overall, 0-1 MEAC) with a team-high 16 points, while junior forward
Brittany Drumgoole added 15 and eight rebounds in the loss. Sophomore forward
JaQuanna Murray recorded the games only double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds and three blocks. Junior forward
Jahmia Bradley fell one rebound shy of a double-double with nine rebounds, 10 points and four steals.
The women's contest between versus Hampton and Norfolk State was rescheduled, due to the forecast of a snowstorm impacting the Hampton Roads area last weekend. The MEAC showdown with Hampton, originally set for Saturday, Jan. 7, was rescheduled to Wednesday, Jan. 25, tipping off at 5 p.m. at the HU Convocation. Meanwhile, the game against Norfolk State, originally scheduled for Monday, Jan. 9 will be made up on Wednesday, Feb. 15, beginning at 5:30 p.m. at Echols Hall Arena.
SC State has two players in double-figures with Blair leading the way with 18.3 ppg and Drumgoole with 11.1 points per outing. Bradley is the leader on the boards with 7.4 rebounds, while scoring 9. 1 ppg.
BC-U (7-8 overall, 3-0 MEAC ) enters the contest as the top team in the league and is led in scoring by Kailyn Williams with 11.4 ppg, while Houston Taylor and Kendra Cooper each chips in a little over 8.1 per contest. Williams is the leader on the boards with 7.1. Emily Williams dishes out a little over 2.3 apg. Williams is the force on defense and among the top defenders in the MEAC with 4.1 blocks per game.
